Holy Cross is a Lutheran Church in Los Gatos, CA.
The stained glass windows on the steeple were suffering from multiple problems. The plexiglass protection system was extremely aged, preventing any visibility from the exterior. It was also trapping water which was contributing to a deterioration of the wood frame and leakage into the sanctuary. The glass panels themselves were very dirty and a lichen-like growth was attacking the lead.
Due to the architecture of the building, removing the panels would have been prohibitively expensive, so it was decided to restore the glass in situ. This however would not guaranty they could be weather tight. To handle this and protect the windows it was decided to add a low profile insulated glass protection system in front of the glass.
We removed the old protection system, restored the stained glass, repaired the wood frame, primed and painted the wood frame, and installed the new protection system.
